Sweeping Frequency and Heating Type

How often you need a sweep depends on your fuel. Open fires need sweeping once a year; wood burners and multi-fuel stoves also require annual sweeping. If you burn smokeless fuel, you may sweep less often, though annual checks are still wise. Aga and range cooker flues should be swept annually or as recommended by the manufacturer.

Book your sweep in late spring or summer (May to August) to beat the September-to-December rush. This timing also ensures your chimney is clean and safe before you rely on heating through autumn and winter.

CCTV Inspection and Problem Detection

A CCTV chimney inspection costs £100 to £170 and reveals blockages, cracks, bird nests and structural issues that a sweep alone cannot see. If you're moving to a property, buying one with a chimney, or notice poor draw or smoke, an inspection provides certainty. The footage helps your sweep and any surveyor or engineer understand what repairs or maintenance your flue truly needs.

Common findings include bird nests (protected in season), tar buildup requiring power sweeping (£100 to £170), or the need for a flexible flue liner if the chimney is damaged. Catching these problems early prevents chimney fires and dangerous smoke leaks into your home.

Best Time to Book Chimney Cleaning in Princes Risborough

Book your Princes Risborough sweep between May and August to avoid the autumn and winter rush. Sweeping before September ensures your chimney is ready for the heating season and lets you book around your sweep's schedule without pressure.

How much does a chimney sweep cost in Princes Risborough?

A basic sweep of an open fire costs £65 to £100. Wood burners and multi-fuel stoves run £75 to £105. More complex jobs like CCTV inspections (£100 to £170), bird guard fitting (£80 to £170), or chimney pot replacement (£170 to £450) cost more. Ask the sweep for a quote based on your chimney type.

How often should I have my chimney swept?

Open fires, wood burners and multi-fuel stoves need sweeping once a year. Smokeless fuel can be swept less often, but annual checks are recommended. Aga and range cooker flues depend on use and manufacturer guidance. Book before the heating season starts to stay safe and efficient.

What is a CCTV chimney inspection?

A CCTV inspection costs £100 to £170 and sends a camera into your flue to spot blockages, cracks, bird nests and structural damage. It's useful if you're buying a property, moving home, or noticing poor draft or smoke. The footage helps your sweep plan repairs or confirm your chimney is sound.
