Three Rural Sweeps Serving Camelford & Poundstock

All three chimney sweeps operating in Camelford are based in rural areas, reflecting the countryside setting of North Cornwall. R MEARS & SONS LTD stands out with 43 customer reviews and a strong local reputation. The other two sweeps, Metters & Son Vac Sweep and Mark Mears Chimney Sweep, also serve the town but have fewer reviews on file.

None of the three offer Saturday appointments, so you'll need to arrange a weekday visit. If you're unable to find a convenient slot locally, nearby Launceston (9 miles away) has one additional sweep, and Callington (20 miles south) has two more options to consider.

Services Available From Camelford Chimney Sweeps

Most sweeps can tackle the full range of chimney work. Standard sweeping covers open fires, wood burners, stoves and range cookers. Many also offer CCTV inspections to check for blockages, cracks or bird nests without the mess of climbing onto the roof. If you have a blocked or heavily tarred flue, ask whether they provide power sweeping, which uses rotary equipment to shift stubborn buildup.

  • Bird nest removal and guard fitting are common add-ons during spring and summer
  • Flexible flue liners (£920 to £2245 fitted) work well in older chimneys with irregular bends
  • Chimney pots and cowls can be replaced to improve draw and prevent water ingress
  • Ask about sweep certificates and insurance when you ring to book

Booking Your Camelford Chimney Sweep

The best time to book a sweep in Camelford is late spring or summer, between May and August. This means your chimney is ready well before the heating season starts in September, and you'll avoid the long waiting lists that build up as autumn approaches. Early booking also gives you a choice of dates rather than taking whatever slot remains.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chimney Sweeps in Camelford

Straight answers to the questions homeowners ask before booking a sweep.

How often should I have my chimney swept?

If you use an open fire or wood burner regularly, sweep it once a year before the heating season starts. Oil-fired systems need sweeping annually too. Gas fires produce less debris and may only need sweeping every two years, but check your appliance handbook. Having a sweep certificate on file is also useful for insurance.

Do I need a CCTV inspection?

A CCTV inspection (£90 to £155) is useful if you're buying a property, suspect a blockage, or haven't used your chimney in years. It shows exactly what's happening inside without guesswork. For a working chimney you sweep regularly, a visual sweep is usually enough unless you notice poor draw or smell.

What does a chimney sweep cost?

A basic sweep runs £60 to £95 depending on your appliance type. CCTV inspections add £90 to £155. Specialist work like flexible liner fitting (£920 to £2245) or stack repointing (£305 to £1020) costs more. Ring your local sweep for a quote based on your specific job.

Can sweeps remove bird nests?

Yes, most sweeps remove bird nests, typically costing £80 to £165. However, nesting birds are protected by law during breeding season (roughly March to August), so removal must wait until the nest is abandoned. Fitting a bird guard or cowl (£70 to £155) prevents future nesting.

What is a flexible flue liner?

A flexible flue liner is a stainless steel tube that runs down inside your chimney, creating a smooth, narrow passage for smoke and gases. It's useful in older chimneys with bends or irregular shapes. Supply and fitting typically costs £920 to £2245, depending on the height and complexity of your chimney.

How do I find the best sweep near me?

Check online reviews and ratings, ask whether they're insured and hold a sweep certificate, and see if they offer a website where you can view their services and prices. Three sweeps serve Camelford; R MEARS & SONS LTD has the most reviews locally. Get a quote before booking to understand what's included.
