8 Best Chimney Sweeps in Manchester: Trusted & Reviewed

Open fires and multi fuel stoves should be swept annually before the heating season. Wood burners and Agas need sweeping every year too. If you use your fireplace daily, ask your sweep whether more frequent visits would suit. A sweeping certificate proves the job's been done and is often required by insurance companies.

A CCTV inspection reveals blockages, cracks, creosote buildup and bird nests inside your flue without dismantling anything. It costs £85 to £140 and helps identify repairs or a flue liner. Most sweeps recommend one every few years as part of routine maintenance, or if you suspect a problem.

Blockages typically come from creosote and tar buildup (especially in wood burners), bird nests or debris, or damaged flue sections. A power sweep costs £85 to £140 and can shift heavy tar. If the flue is cracked or collapsed, your sweep may recommend a flexible liner (£845 to £2070 fitted). A CCTV inspection pinpoints the cause before work begins.

A bird guard or cowl (£65 to £140 fitted) stops nests from entering your flue, especially in spring and summer when birds are nesting. They also reduce drafts and prevent rain entering. If a nest is already present during breeding season, removal is legally restricted, so guards are a sensible preventive measure.

A sweeping certificate confirms your chimney was professionally cleaned and is safe to use. It's proof for your insurer and is often required if you make a claim after a chimney fire. Your sweep will provide one after the job, and it's valid for the heating season.

Repairs vary widely. A bird guard costs £65 to £140, a chimney pot replacement £140 to £375, and stack repointing £280 to £940. A full flue liner installation runs £845 to £2070. Ask your sweep for a quote after inspection; many offer free callouts or surveys so you know the cost before committing.
