6 Best Chimney Sweeps in Ipswich [2026 Update]

If you burn wood, sweep once a year minimum, ideally before winter. Solid fuel burners need sweeping every 12 months. Gas fires and range cookers typically need less frequent sweeping, usually every 18 months to two years, though your sweep can advise based on usage and what they find.

A sweep clears soot and debris from your flue using rods or brushes. A CCTV inspection films inside your chimney to spot cracks, blockages, bird nests or damage you can't see. Many sweeps recommend an inspection if you've never had one, if you're buying a property, or if you notice a poor draw or smoke.

A power or rotary sweep uses spinning brushes to shift stubborn tar and glaze from the flue walls. Normal sweeping with hand rods works for regular maintenance. If soot is packed hard or buildup is heavy, a power sweep cuts through faster and more thoroughly, though it costs more at £95 to £160.

A damaged chimney pot lets rain and birds in and weakens your stack. A cowl or guard prevents birds and weather but keeps the pot in place. Your sweep can spot whether you need one or both during inspection. Replacement pots run £160 to £425, while guards or cowls cost £75 to £160 fitted.

During nesting season, birds are protected by law and nests cannot be removed. Outside season, most sweeps can remove nests for £85 to £170. After removal, fitting a bird guard (£75 to £160) stops them returning. Ask your sweep whether they can fit one on the same visit.

Most sweeps in Ipswich can provide CCTV inspection as part of their service. It costs between £95 and £160. Ask when you call whether they offer it, as it's useful if you're inheriting a chimney you know little about or if you suspect a problem that needs diagnosing.
