How Much Does a Chimney Sweep Cost in Chichester?

Chimney sweep costs in Chichester typically range from £65 to £100 for an open fire, or £75 to £105 for a wood burner or multi-fuel stove. More specialised work costs more: a CCTV inspection runs £100 to £170, while larger jobs like chimney stack repointing reach £335 to £1120. The price you'll pay depends on the type of appliance, how much tar or debris needs removing, and any repairs such as fitting a chimney pot (£170 to £450) or installing a flexible flue liner (£1010 to £2465).

Finding a Rated Sweep in Chichester

Five of the seven sweeps listed here have customer reviews on record, with Clean Sweep and CHICHESTER SWEEPS standing out for the volume and consistency of feedback. Reviews help you understand how a business communicates, whether they turn up on time, and how thorough they are. Most sweeps in Chichester can offer standard sweeping, CCTV inspection, and repairs, but it's worth checking their website or calling to confirm they handle your particular heating appliance.

Three sweeps in the area open on Saturdays if weekday appointments don't fit your schedule. Online reviews mention how homeowners rate the quality of work, the condition of the property afterwards, and whether the sweep explained any issues found during the job.

Why Rural Spread Matters for Chichester Bookings

Six of Chichester's seven sweeps operate from rural bases, covering a wide area across South Downs parishes and the built-up zones around East Wittering, Bosham and Hunston. This rural spread can mean longer travel times if you live on the outskirts, so booking early in the season helps secure an appointment that suits both you and the sweep. Rural sweeps often have flexible scheduling precisely because they serve a larger territory and fewer back-to-back urban calls.

The postcode districts PO19, PO20 and PO18 all have access to these sweeps, though response times and availability may vary by location. If you're in one of the more remote parishes like Lavant or North Mundham, confirming coverage with your chosen sweep avoids disappointment.

  • Six sweeps based in rural West Sussex serve Chichester and surrounding parishes
  • Urban sweep available for city-centre and Chichester North properties
  • Postcode districts PO19, PO20 and PO18 all covered by local businesses

CCTV Inspections, Bird Nests and Chimney Repairs in Chichester

Most sweeps in Chichester can handle bird nest removal (£90 to £180) and fit guards or cowls to prevent future nesting. If your flue needs relining because of cracks or damage, expect to budget £1010 to £2465 for a flexible liner supply and fit. Heavy tar deposits in older chimneys may require a power sweep (£100 to £170) rather than standard brush and rod work.

Smoke and draw tests (£45 to £80) check whether your chimney is working efficiently, while a wood burner annual service (£100 to £170) keeps stove and flue in safe working order. Ask whether the sweep can supply and fit chimney pots or carry out minor repointing if needed.

  • CCTV inspection identifies blockages, cracks and damage before they worsen
  • Power sweep tackles stubborn tar buildup from older fires
  • Bird guards and cowls prevent nesting and water ingress

Best Time to Book Chimney Cleaning in Chichester

Book your Chichester sweep between May and August to secure a summer slot before the September to December rush. Late spring and summer appointments mean your chimney is cleared well before you light the heating, and the sweep has more availability than during autumn and winter.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chimney Sweeps in Chichester

Straight answers to the questions homeowners ask before booking a sweep.

How often should I have my chimney swept?

Most chimneys need sweeping once a year. If you burn wood or solid fuel regularly, or use an open fire frequently, sweeping twice yearly keeps creosote and tar buildup to a minimum. Aga and range cooker flues should also be swept annually.

What should I expect during a chimney sweep visit in Chichester?

The sweep will clean the flue from top to bottom using brush and rods or a power sweep, containing dust and debris. Afterwards you'll receive a sweeping certificate, and the sweep will point out any damage, blockages or needed repairs spotted during the work.

Do I need a sweeping certificate for insurance?

Yes, most home insurance policies require an annual sweeping certificate. Your sweep will issue one after the job is done, proving your chimney has been professionally cleaned and is safe to use.

What does a CCTV chimney inspection show?

A CCTV camera runs up the flue to reveal cracks, missing mortar, creosote buildup, bird nests, debris and blockages. It's especially useful for identifying damage that needs repair before the heating season starts.

Why is my chimney drawing poorly?

Poor draw can be caused by a blocked flue, a missing chimney pot, or insufficient air in the room. A smoke test (£45 to £80) will identify the problem, and your sweep can then recommend a new pot, or air vents installed.

Can I book a chimney sweep on Saturday in Chichester?

Three sweeps in the area open on Saturdays. Check their websites or call to confirm availability and whether they have Saturday slots during the season you need.
