The One Sweep Serving Kelso and Jedburgh District

Ashwipe Chimney Sweeps operates from Kelso, serving the surrounding area including Jedburgh and District. The business has received three customer reviews and operates within the TD5 postcode. As a rural sweep, they're positioned to serve homes across a dispersed area rather than a dense urban market, which means travel time may vary depending on your exact location.

If you need a sweep outside normal hours, you'll want to check availability directly, as Saturday opening is not standard here. For those in nearby towns such as Hawick (15 miles away) or Lauder (17 miles), there are other options, though Duns has a larger choice of sweeps within 18 miles.

What Kelso Homeowners Typically Need Swept

Open fires remain common in period properties and older homes throughout the Scottish Borders, and sweeping costs £60 to £90 per visit. Wood burners and multi-fuel stoves are increasingly popular for heating efficiency, and sweeping these runs £65 to £95. If you heat by Aga or range cooker flue, expect £80 to £120 for that specialist work.

Sweeping frequency depends on fuel: oil-fired systems annually, wood burners 1 to 2 times yearly, solid fuel twice yearly
Most sweeps supply a certificate after each visit for your records and insurance
Ask whether the sweep offers smoke or draw tests (£40 to £70) to check your flue is working properly

Many sweeps will advise you of any structural concerns during a visit, such as crumbling mortar or damaged pots.

Chimney pot replacement (£145 to £390) and stack repointing (£295 to £980) are longer-term investments. If your flue is damaged or badly lined, a flexible liner installation typically costs £880 to £2,155. These jobs are best planned during warmer months when you're not relying on your heating.

How often should I sweep my chimney in Kelso?

If you burn wood, sweep 1 to 2 times yearly. Solid fuel heating requires twice yearly sweeping. Oil-fired systems need an annual sweep. Your sweep will advise based on what you burn and how much you use it.

What does a chimney sweep cost in Kelso?

A basic open fire sweep runs £60 to £90, wood burners £65 to £95, and range cooker flues £80 to £120. CCTV inspections are £90 to £145. Larger repairs such as repointing or new liners cost significantly more and depend on the work needed.

Do I need a certificate after my chimney is swept?

Yes. Most sweeps provide a sweeping certificate after each visit, which you should keep for your insurance records and proof of maintenance.

What's a CCTV chimney inspection and why do I need one?

A CCTV inspection (£90 to £145) uses a camera to view inside your flue, revealing blockages, damage, or structural issues that aren't visible from outside. It's useful before buying a home or if you suspect a problem.

How do I prevent birds nesting in my chimney?

Fitting a bird guard or cowl (£70 to £145) stops nests forming. If birds are already nesting during breeding season, removal is protected by law. Out of season, nest removal costs £80 to £155.

Can the Kelso sweep visit on Saturdays?

The local sweep does not open Saturdays as standard, so contact them directly to discuss your availability or check nearby towns such as Duns for alternative options.
