Sweeping Frequency and Fuel Type in Aberdare and Porth
How often you sweep depends on what you burn. Open fire users should sweep once yearly before the heating season starts. Wood burner and multi-fuel stove owners need sweeping at least once a year, sometimes twice if you burn softwood or wet fuel. Range cookers and Aga flues also need annual attention. If you've never swept your chimney or it's been several years, ask your sweep whether a power sweep for heavy tar deposits might be needed alongside a standard clean.
- Open fires: once per year minimum
- Wood burners and multi-fuel stoves: once yearly, twice if burning softwood
- Range cookers and Agas: once per year
