3 Best Chimney Sweeps in Barry [Updated 2026]

Open fires and wood burners should be swept at least once a year before the heating season starts. If you burn wood heavily or have a multi-fuel stove, more frequent sweeping may be needed. Gas fires and Agas typically need less frequent attention, but ask your sweep for a recommendation based on your usage.

A CCTV inspection lets the sweep see inside your flue without dismantling anything. It reveals blockages from soot or debris, cracks in the flue, bird nests, and loose mortar in the chimney stack. Most inspections cost £85 to £140 and should include a report with photos.

If your home insurance or boiler warranty requires proof of a professional sweep, yes. A sweep certificate shows the flue was checked and cleaned to standard. Ask whether it's included in the basic price when you call.

Wood burners burn hotter and produce denser soot and tar deposits than open fires. Clearing this buildup takes longer and may require extra equipment, so sweeps charge £60 to £90 instead of £55 to £85.

Removal costs £75 to £150 depending on the nest's size and how far up the flue it is. If the nest is active during spring and summer, it's protected by law, so the sweep will wait until it's abandoned before removing it. A bird guard (£65 to £140) fitted afterwards helps prevent the same problem next year.

Two of the three Barry sweeps have websites where you can send an enquiry or check availability. Contact them directly to discuss your needs and agree a price before the sweep visits.
